An interesting option to climb Mt. Meru and explore its surroundings without reaching the summit is a 2-day hike in the Arusha National Park. The African flora and fauna of the park will surely take over your senses as you hike through it with the fresh forest scent, chirps and calls of birds, and calming green sceneries. There are multiple natural trails that will offer you breath-taking views as well as close sights of wildlife.
Today, you’ll be picked up from your lodge and be driven to the Arusha National Park entry gate. After permit clearance, together with your guide and armed ranger, you will climb Mt. Meru and start your hike towards the Miriakamba Huts. This route will take you through a lush rainforest, up to the famed Fig Tree where you will stop for lunch at the picnic sight.
Hiking time: 4 – 6hrs
Accommodation: Miriakamba hut (2,500 meters)
Meals: Lunch, dinner, snacks
With a cup of coffee or tea, you will be woken up to enjoy the sunrise behind Kilimanjaro at the viewpoint behind the dining hall. After breakfast, around 09:00am, you will start descending through the Buffalo Glade. Buffalo Glade serves as a feeding ground for buffalos, giraffes and warthogs. On your way down, you will also pass through the beautiful Tululusia Waterfalls – the sound of the water thrashing can be heard from over a mile away!
